Tavistock Square Memorial Hiroshima Bomb victims

Tavistock Square: Memorial to the Hiroshima Bomb victims

A few yards in front of you as you carry on into the square is the tree commemorating victims of the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima at the end of the Second World War. It has a tiny image of the Buddha fixed into the bark of the tree. The tree itself is a flowering cherry, something very much loved in Japan.

People gather at this memorial every year to commemorate the Hiroshima bomb and to commit themselves to peaceful resolution of conflicts now and in the future. Further information can be found here.
