It is 5 minutes walk from the Synagogue to St Leonard’s Church; keep on the right hand pavement. If time, call in at the Health Food shop** and see the Hindu shrine above the reception desk and the Buddhist shrine at the back of the shop. There may be notices about Ayurvedic medicines and other healing services on the shop front. ** maximum group size 10
The church is at the junction of some very busy roads, but you can assemble in the graveyard and from there you can also see the English Martyrs Roman Catholic Churchacross the road. St. Leonard’s comprehensive, interactive website includes the fascinating history of the church, told in a stained glass window. You can listen to the bells ringing, the choir singing and read of the charitable work undertaken.
Please phone the office number to make arrangements to visit.
If you turn right out of the main entrance, you will come immediately to the Spires Centre (also known as ‘Streetlink’ – you may see the Streetlink van outside). The Spires Centre provides shelter and meals for people who are homeless. It is supported by people from the local churches, the synagogue and the mosque. They raise money, collect food and help out voluntarily.
Tooting Common is just ahead, across the road from the end of Tooting Bec Gardens, where you could eat packed lunches.
