AREIAC 2022 conference will take place on 4th and 5th July 2022 at the Windmill Village Hotel, Coventry.
After two years of being unable to meet face to face, we are delighted that we will finally be able to hold our conference in Coventry and catch up with colleagues and friends – old and new! The Windmill Village Hotel has kindly held our booking over from 2020 and has been amazingly helpful throughout this challenging period. We are confident the staff will provide a warm welcome and make us feel safe and cared for throughout our stay.

Public Affairs Engagement – the RE Policy Unit
On Tuesday 1st February the REC was delighted to host a webinar from the RE Policy Unit*, exploring the value public affairs engagement…or lobbying! A helpful presentation was followed by a lively Q&A with REC members united around the goal of engaging more Members of Parliament in support of RE.
Teachers to support the development of RE resources for RVE in Wales
The Welsh Government is working in partnership with the Wales Association of SACREs (WASACRE) to create a suite of national online Professional Learning resources to support practitioners, and a team of experienced teachers, drawn from schools across Wales are creating these resources.
Universities consider re-naming courses in “Theology” and “Religious Studies” to “Worldviews”.
REC member organisation, TRS-UK, which represents departments of Theology and Religious Studies in Universities and other higher education institutions, are being encouraged by their new president; Dr Opinderjit Takhar to consider the benefits of promoting their courses under a new name. Dr Takhar believes that the names currently used for Theology and Religious Studies courses, can lead to young people misconceiving course content and aims. A subject title of “Worldviews” could help address this issue and inspire more young people to study the subject at degree level.

Announcement from Humanists UK, a member of the REC
We’ve been delighted at the success of Understanding Humanism since its launch in 2016, and the positive feedback it has received. Following conversations with teachers, we’ve organised the resources for ages 5-18 into several core areas of knowledge to support young people’s understanding of a humanist approach to life.
New guidance published for RVE in the Curriculum for Wales
Late last year, Education Wales made the following statement in relation to the school curriculum for Wales:
”From 2022 Religious education in Wales will be renamed ‘Religion, values and ethics’
