Barnabas in Schools (BRF)

Barnabas in Schools is part of BRF, a Christian charity. Barnabas in Schools is a professional service provider to primary schools, offering quality creative arts-based Barnabas RE Days for pupils and specialist INSET sessions for teachers, supported by a dedicated website. Our overall aim is to enable schools to explore Christianity creatively and confidently by resourcing the teaching of Christianity and the Bible within RE and Collective Worship. The work of the Barnabas in Schools team supports the provision of RE, PSE and SMSC in primary schools.

Contributions to RE

Barnabas RE Days

Barnabas in Schools contributes to RE in 3 ways:

  • Barnabas RE Days provide primary-age pupils and staff with a creative, engaging and inspirational introduction to Christian values on a range of themes that supports RE aims and objectives. The sessions use different creative arts, and can include storytelling, music, mime or drama – using material based on Bible stories, contemporary life illustrations and shared experience.
  • Barnabas INSET is designed to encourage and equip school staff for teaching Christianity within an RE syllabus for Foundation, KS1 and KS2. Training sessions include tried-and-tested ideas for approaching the Bible creatively in RE lessons, exploring the Christian story through a range of approaches including games, drama, storytelling, music and art – as appropriate to the INSET topic and the trainer’s own strengths.  Training for planning and leading collective worship can be included in this.
  • Barnabas in Schools website offers a wide range of free resources to facilitate teaching about the Bible and Christianity. Each term extra materials are added, offering a free email service alerting subscribers both to what’s new on the website, and also to other developments in the world of RE and Collective Worship. The website also contains support materials for our Barnabas RE Days and INSET programme, and hosts an online catalogue for purchasing our latest publications for teachers, some available by download.
