MPs’ report highlights contribution of RE to good community relations

The All Party Parliamentary Group on RE has published a summary report following a five-month inquiry into the contribution of RE to good community relations. The inquiry, co-ordinated by Dr Joyce Miller, heard evidence from a wide range of perspectives about how RE at its best can play a positive role in giving young people the skills and knowledge they need for life in a diverse society. The report takes the form of a good practice document suggesting how these aspects of RE can be made part of every young person’s education.

In a media statement, Stephen Lloyd, Chair of the APPG on RE, said,

‘Schools and colleges are a safe and trusted place to explore religions, conflict and world views in a constructive and positive way… This prepares children for the challenges and opportunities of multi-cultural life, and helps them live harmoniously with others’.
